Defeat of the Damned

Defeat of the Damned

We designed all the maps and made several photo treatments for the recently published Douglas E. Nash book The Defeat of the Damned: The Destruction of the Dirlewanger Brigade at the Battle of Ipolysag, December 1944. The nine maps comprise the main events at play during December of 1944, where the fallout of the battles around Ipolysag led to the loss of Budapest. All the maps were illustrated over original 1940-45 German and Slovakian maps. Overview “One of the most notorious yet least understood body of troops that fought for the Third Reich during World War II was the infamous Sondereinheit Dirlewanger, or the “Dirlewanger Special Unit.” Formed initially as […]

Capture of Ipolysag 14 DEC. 44

Capture of Ipolysag 14 DEC. 44

We made a graphical representation of events regarding the capture of Ipolysag by the Red Army during the battles of late 1944 north of Budapest in Slovakia. These battles are portrayed in the new Douglas Nash Book, “The Defeat of the Damned: The Destruction of the Dirlewanger Brigade at the Battle of Ipolysag, December 1944”.

Capture of Kós, 1943

Capture of Kós, 1943

We made a nice graphical representation of events regarding the capture of Kós in October 1943, by german forces in the Greek islands. It is a re-interpretation of events as portrayed in Osprey Campaign series #339. We’ve added the original for comparison.

Battle for White Russia

Battle for White Russia

We take aim at another cover. This time for another exquisite book published in 1989 by Gerd Niepold, “Battle for White Russia: The Destruction of Army Group Centre, June 1944“, which is one of the few detailed books covering (mainly the german side) the Bagration operation that smashed through Army Group Center in the summer of 1944. Obviously the original cover doesn’t do any service to the book so here it is our two versions. We post the original cover for comparison.

Roger Hurkman’s Diorama reimagined

Roger Hurkman’s Diorama reimagined

We’ve took one of the most famous diorama’s “Unternehmen Südwind, Hungary 1945” from acclaimed Dutch military modeler Roger Hurkmans and reimagined the scene. An RSO tractor struggling to pull over an artillery piece. We constructed a new landscape, inspired in hungary’s landscape, winter and architecture. We used over 15 images to compose this image.

Narva Isthmus February of 1944

Narva Isthmus February of 1944

The Battle of Narva was a campaign between the German Army Abteilung “Narwa” and the Soviet Leningrad Front fought for possession of the strategically important Narva Isthmus from 2 February to 10 August 1944. The campaign took place in Estonia and consisted of two major phases: the Battle for Narva Bridgehead (February to July 1944) and the battle for the Tannenberg line. The Soviet Kingisepp–Gdov Offensive and Narva Offensives (15–28 February, 1–4 March and 18–24 March) were part of the Red Army Winter Spring Campaign of 1944. Following Joseph Stalin’s “Broad Front” strategy, these battles coincided with the Dnieper–Carpathian Offensive (December 1943 – April 1944) and the Lvov–Sandomierz Offensive (July–August 1944). the Soviet Estonian operation pushed the front westward to the Narva River, aiming […]

III Panzer Korps at Kursk

III Panzer Korps at Kursk

A new cover made for the obscure III Panzer Korps at Kursk by Didier Lodieu. An excellent account on the south salient events, where II SS Panzer Korps holds all the spotlights in literature. Here Didier sheds light on the overburdened goals set for the weak III PK to defend the right flank of the advance of IISS PK and extend the front on an area very well defended and with many obstacles and rivers.
